This is both a sequel and a prequel to the original trio of X-Men films. The movie takes us on an in depth look at both childhood and maturity of one of comic books most beloved stars. The movie also answers questions about Wolverine's relationships with Stryker and Sabertooth.
The movie starts off with a bang describing with good visuals and acting about the relationship between wolverine and Sabertooth. As the movie progresses we are introduced to more mutants that are involved in Wolverine's life and there becomes a noticeable shift from good acting to a show of flashy skills. This is often accompanied by a cheesy line. This is a vicious cycle throughout the entire movie; anytime we are amazed by the story we are distracted with a new power that is presented in an over the top manner and slowly chips away from the authenticity of the movie.
The overall story is powerful and can be understood by anyone who feels they have something to fight for. The end fight seen is also well created and if you take this movie as a true prequel then you will be satisfied with the final scene.
Overall I will say not to expect too much from the movie. The acting is above average with almost the entire cast; however, the characters are poorly presented often doing and saying things that aren't found in normal human interaction. For example: a character flies through the air shooting bad guys and doing flips, he lands and for no reason at all, he flings his arms in the air in a fan like motion over his head, pauses for effect. This is a character supposedly belonging to an elite military unit.
Pros
Good overall story, acting and most fight scenes are well planned and executed.
Cons
Unrealistic character involvement. The script is often distracting and doesn't allow the overall story to get too good.
If you are a hardcore X-Men fan then by all means go see the movie, for everyone else I would recommend to wait for it at blockbuster. This one gets a three out of five.
